Graduation Week at Heritage has become a much anticipated occasion full of outstanding events. This year, Graduation Week has been streamlined into three full days (Tuesday-Thursday).

Everyone is invited to participate in the various activities: Alumni Fish Fry, Spring Graduation Banquet, Wednesday Night Rally, and Commencement Exercises. The date of the banquet this year has been changed to Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. on the Hopewell Campus. Besides the good food, Dr. Harry Strachan will bring a special message that will encourage your heart.

Heritage Update

The date of the Commencement service has also changed this year, and it will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium of the Hopewell Campus. Dr. Randy Parker of Greenfield, IN and pastor of Bethel Baptist Church will be the speaker that evening. We look forward to another wonderful graduating class.

The President's Perspective

Heritage Update

Sam Patch stood on a platform 120 ft. above the High Falls of the Genesee River at Rochester, New York. The date was November 13, 1829, and a crowd of 10,000 spectators watched the 30 year-old stuntman.

Only the month before, Sam Patch had become the first of the Niagara Falls daredevils when he had twice leaped into the waters below the falls.

A few days later he had traveled the 87 miles to Rochester and on that Friday afternoon, Sam Patch faced the crowd. He shouted these word: “Napoleon was a great man, but he couldn't jump the Genesee...I will.” Sam Patch then leaped into the waters below.

Five months later, his body was found downstream and he was buried in a small graveyard. A wooden marker was placed over the grave which read: "Sam Patch, Such is Fame."

Heritage Update

The death of Sam Patch awoke the community, and no less the Christians. One man asked this question: "Was the leaper of cataracts more mad or foolish than other men who throw away life?"

Rochester was a boomtown with the recent completion of the Erie Canal. In 20 years, the wilderness village had grown to 10,000 souls, and it was now considered the flour mill capital of the world. With that growth had come the sin associated in a rapidly expanding town.

The city ministers requested a young 29 year-old evangelist, named Charles Finney to come and hold a protracted meeting. Finney, a former lawyer, had only been saved eight years, but he had recently experienced a “touch of God” in his meetings. (Kelly, Jack. Heaven’s Ditch - God, Gold, and Murder on the Erie Canal. New York: St. Martin’s Press. 2016)

Heritage Update

The young evangelist arrived on a canal boat in September. He pray, preached, and visited. When the meeting ended in February, over 800 souls had accepted Christ, many of them prominent citizens. Christians were revived, and it is recorded that over 1200 folks joined the city churches. Crime fell off, and the jail was nearly empty for years. The revival had a ripple effect throughout western New York, and it is reported that 50,000 were saved in the next few months.

What changed Rochester back then, was not promotion, it was not prosperity, but it was a praying preacher and His message.

The same holds true today!

Using the Tools

Recently, two short videos were released showing the product & the focus of Heritage Baptist College.

These professionally mastered videos were separately funded by friends, and we are very thankful for the gift and for this new tool.

Like any tool, it needs to be used to be effective.

Some say that Heritage Baptist College is a “best kept secret.” That is not the wish of any of the teachers or the administration. We want folks to know that we are a college that stands on the Bible, Soulwinning, Biblical Values, and Baptist Doctrine.

The new videos are a tool to introduce Heritage Baptist College.

The first video showcases the product of Heritage. In two minutes students and graduates explain the benefits of HBC.

In the second video, which lasts four minutes, you see the focus and vision of Heritage explained by staff and teachers.

These videos can be found on our website, the Heritage Facebook page, & even on You-Tube. These videos are a great way to share Heritage at missionconferences or with interested friends.
