October 2016 Update

Upcoming Fall Banquet

Heritage Baptist College will host the Annual Fall Banquet at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 4th. This year, we will again host the Fall Banquet on the Hopewell Campus, and the food will be catered by Gray Brother’s Cafeteria.

We look forward to hearing Dr. David Price of Cooperstown, TN (Greater Nashville) speak that evening. Dr. Price planted the Providence Baptist Church in 2000, and the Lord has blessed in the past 16 years, raising up a wonderful ministry. Dr. David Price is the son of the well-loved evangelist, Dr. Dolphus Price.

Come and enjoy his message, along with a night of good food, Christian music, and great fellowship. Please call Heritage Baptist College to make a reservation. (317) 738-3791 or (317) 246-8915.

Heritage Baptist Bible Fellowship – 2nd Meeting

Pastors, missionaries, and evangelists gathered at Calvary Baptist Church in Ashland, OH on October 3 & 4 for the second meeting of the Heritage Baptist Bible Fellowship. The Heritage Singers traveled over from the college, and blessed the congregation with their songs.

Dr. Gary Beatty, Dr. Larry Clayton, and three other preachers each brought forth an excellent message from the Word.

Thank you so much to our host pastor, Dr. Harry Strachan, and to all those who had a part in planning and presenting this fine meeting.

New College Videos

Recently, Heritage Baptist College was approached with direction and funding for the production of two professional videos presenting the college.

Most of the raw footage and interviews were recorded during the 2nd week of October, and we look forward to reviewing the finished work.

The videos are planned as short, three minute segments revealing the opportunities of Heritage Baptist College to students, along with the direction and goals of the school. Heritage has two special areas for growth: Recruiting and Friendraising.

Listen to the Sound

When we first opened the Hopewell Campus, the college had a building, but for large gatherings, we had to borrow everything: 250 chairs, tables, flags, temporary platform, etc. Over time, various individuals and churches stepped forward to meet each need.

But for the past five years, we have always needed an adequate sound system for the large assembly room.

In October, we saw the Lord again use people to fill a need. Calvary Baptist Church of Ashland, donated a brand new sound system designed to meet the needs of our remodeled gymnasium.

We look forward to getting the equipment all in place and ready for the upcoming Fall Banquet on Friday, November 4th.

Reaching Them With Conviction

Ford Porter (1893-1976), while a young businessman, had just gotten right with God. He had turned from the world, and sought to be used by the Lord. After a recent promotion at the Hercules Corporation, his faith was challenged.

One Sunday morning, his telephone rang. An out of state customer had driven into town, and needed a part for his engine. With the factory closed, he asked Ford Porter to open it up on Sunday.

Not yet a pastor, Sunday, still was a busy day for the young Christian: teaching a boy’s Sunday School class, attending church, helping in Ernest Reveal’s Rescue Mission, and leading the Sunday evening young people’s meeting.

Ford Porter told the man he could not open the factory on Sunday, but would be happy to help him the next day. On Monday at 5:00 a.m., Ford Porter met the man and explained the reasons he had not honored the customer’s request. Ford Porter also witnessed to the man, and although they had a good conversation, no decision was made by the man.

About a year later, the man returned, but not on a Sunday. He came up to Ford Porter and told him that after he had returned home, he had related the incident to his wife. He then said to her, “We certainly need to make a change in our ways.”

That man then told Ford Porter that he, his wife, and their children had received Christ as their personal Savior. “We all go to Sunday School and church each Sunday,” he said.

Ford Porter would later become a devoted pastor, and in time write “God’s Simple Plan of Salvation.” That tract would be printed in over 100 languages, & thousands would come to know the Savior through its message.

Ford Porter summarized this early incident with these words: “There isn’t any question, if I had gone to the factory to get parts for him that Sunday, he would not have been reached for Christ.” (Lockyer, Herbert. The Berean Miracle. Indianapolis: Berean Gospel Distributors. 1963. pp. 23-25)

An Honest Statement From a Politician

“You know, I had a drinking problem. Right now I should be in a bar in Texas, not the Oval Office. There is only one reason that I am in the Oval Office and not a bar. I found faith. I found God. I am here because of the power of prayer.” - George W. Bush (Mansfield, Stephen. The Faith of George W. Bush. New York: Penguin Group. 2003 (p. 73).
